Procchio  beach

The long bay with its facilities

Procchio is one of the best-equipped beaches on Elba: its turquoise, transparent sea attracts yachts seeking a relaxing stopover. The beach is split into three parts: Procchio, Campo Aia and Guardiola. There is a small mooring field in front of Guardiola but it is only for small vessels and water craft. The eastern part of the beach of Guardiola is named after the building that stands on the promontory; in the Roman era it was most likely a mooring place for ships carrying agricultural products and perhaps iron too. This theory is borne out by the relic of an ancient Roman ship which lies on the seabed just a few metres offshore; here, after the Second World War, local farmers would extract large lumps of sulphur from it, to fertilise their vines. The beach has cafés, restaurants, and a fully-equipped beach club. For anything else one might need, the town of Procchio is a short walk from the beach.
